Winter Dance Weekend is happening Feb. 16-18, 2018 at the Pioneer Park Dance Hall. As in years past, anticipate a fun time of dancing – workshops and evening dances.

We are delighted to present, for the first time in Alaska, the incomparable Julie Metcalf on fiddle (and other things), joining her frequent musical partner Max Newman on guitar and feet. Julie is coming by special request of me because 1) she doesn’t get away from New England much, I really like her musical style, and she’s a really fine person to boot.

Everyone likely knows Max, who left Alaska to go to Harvard and never came home, a degree in Government and he’s been playing contra dances ever since. One of his college essays 11 years ago was on the community of contra dance here in Fairbanks. He grew up here and brings his experience, good vibes, and more back home.

You can expect contra dance, squares, waltzes and possible English Country Dance.
Mary Wesley was last here in 2016 for Dance Camp North and is a favorite for sure.
